HIMYM Theory: Ockham’s Razor Is Wrong

The year is 2024. Ted Mosby is telling stories to The Mother at the Farhampton Inn where they met. He informs her that Robin’s mother came to the wedding.

“What mother is going to miss her daughter’s wedding?” she responded.

Ted began crying.

Flash forward six years. Ted, suddenly voiced by Bob Saget, has sat his children down to tell them the story of how he met their mother.

The big question is what happened between those two moments. The prevailing theory is that the mother died.

It is an easy theory to believe. Why else would Ted tell his kids such a long story?

Well, probably because he loves to tell stories.

If he was telling a story about their dead mother, they would not be shuffling around the couch in disgust, would they?

Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, the co-creators of the series, stated that they filmed the final scene of the series eight years ago, according to CBS.

“It’s more complicated than you would assume, and for all of our fans, they won’t be disappointed,” said Harris to CBS.

Seeing the show end with the death of The Mother we all waited so long to meet would certainly be disappointing.

Those who do not believe that the mother died are calling Ted Mosby’s crying a red herring. Cristin Miliotti, who plays The Mother gave that theory some credibility.

“That’s insane,” said Miliotti to The Hollywood Reporter. “I know, there are some crazy conspiracy theories which actually makes me love the fans even more because you’re getting to the bottom of… something.”

When asked to describe the finale of HIMYM in one word, she called it, “Beautiful.”

Bays also called it beautiful.

“We’re wildly excited about the finale and obviously we can’t say anything. It’s beautiful.”

Of course, calling the theory “crazy” does not deny that it is true but “beautiful” is not a word I would use if I knew she died.

I guess we will just have to wait until March 31, when the series finale, titled Last Forever: Part Two, airs.
