Buy the Ticket, Take the Ride

Hunter S. Thompson was said to be the most accurate but least factual reporter.

Tom Wolfe called him “the great comic writer of the 20th century.” He left a lasting impact on anyone who came across his work throughout the years. Fans aspired to be like him. Celebrities celebrated his life.

Nine years ago today, he took his own life at the age of 67. That August, his ashes were shot out of a cannon. These were his wishes, what he said would be his funeral. The service was spearheaded by Johnny Depp, who played Thompson in “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” as well as the fictional character, Paul Kemp, in movie based off of Thompson’s novel, “The Rum Diary.”

Thompson once told his close friend, Ralph Steadman, “I’d feel real trapped in this life right now if I didn’t know that I could commit suicide at any moment.”

The following video, “Buy the Ticket, Take the Ride”, is a documentary on Thompson’s life and death.
